How We Care for Pancreatic Disease
Pancreatic disease is a special focus of the hospital. Acute and chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic stones, cysts and pancreatic cancer are managed by the medical and surgical gastroenterology teams together, with endoscopic (ERCP, EUS) and surgical options at the same hospital.
The pancreas sits deep in the abdomen, behind the stomach, so its problems can be hard to pin down. Pain that spreads to the back, oily stools, unexplained weight loss, new diabetes or jaundice can all point to it. A consultation is the first step to finding out whether the pancreas is the cause.
Many pancreatic conditions are managed with medicines and regular follow-up. When a procedure is needed, it is often done through the endoscope - EUS or ERCP - without a cut. When an operation is the better option, the same team plans it with you and explains the alternatives.

Not sure which condition it is?
Start with a consultation - the doctor will explain what is most likely going on and which tests, if any, you need.
This information is general and is not a diagnosis. Please see a doctor about your own symptoms.
Your First Visit for a Pancreas Problem
- Before your visit.
Note when your symptoms started, any weight loss and any episodes of severe pain. Bring previous scans, CDs and reports, and a list of your medicines. For sudden, severe pain, come to the emergency department instead.
- At the consultation.
The doctor asks about your symptoms, alcohol, smoking and family history, examines you and reviews your scans.
- If tests are needed.
You are told which test, why, and how to prepare. EUS, ERCP and other procedures are done at our main hospital in Adajan.
- Your plan.
The findings are explained in plain words, with a plan for treatment and follow-up at Adajan or the OPD nearest you.
When Is a Pancreas Problem Urgent?
Severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood, black or tarry stools, heavy rectal bleeding, fainting, or a cold, pale or painful limb may need urgent assessment. Do not wait for an online appointment — call the hospital or go to the nearest emergency department.
