How We Care for Gallbladder and Bile Duct Problems
Gallstones and bile duct problems are treated by both teams: ERCP and biliary stenting by the endoscopy team, and gallbladder surgery, laparoscopic or robotic, by the surgical gastroenterology team.
Gallstones are one of the most common digestive problems, and most people who need treatment recover well after a planned operation. Other conditions in this group, such as a blocked bile duct or jaundice, need prompt tests so the cause can be found and the blockage relieved.
Many patients see both teams. A stone in the bile duct may be removed by ERCP and the gallbladder taken out by our surgeons afterwards; a narrowing may be examined with SpyGlass or EUS before a treatment plan is agreed. You are told at each step what is being done and why.

Not sure which condition it is?
Start with a consultation - the doctor will explain what is most likely going on and which tests, if any, you need.
This information is general and is not a diagnosis. Please see a doctor about your own symptoms.
Your First Visit for a Gallbladder or Bile Duct Problem
- Before your visit.
Note when the pain or yellowing started, any fever, and what seems to bring it on. Bring your medicines, scan reports and any previous discharge summaries.
- At the consultation.
The doctor asks about your symptoms, examines you and reviews your reports to see whether the gallbladder, the bile duct or both are involved.
- If tests or a procedure are needed.
You are told which test or procedure, why, and how to prepare. ERCP, EUS and surgery are done at our main hospital in Adajan.
- Your plan.
The findings are explained in plain words, with a treatment plan and follow-up at Adajan or the OPD nearest you.
When Is a Gallbladder or Bile Duct Problem Urgent?
Severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood, black or tarry stools, heavy rectal bleeding, fainting, or a cold, pale or painful limb may need urgent assessment. Do not wait for an online appointment — call the hospital or go to the nearest emergency department.
