How We Care for Liver Problems
Our gastroenterologists treat jaundice, fatty liver, hepatitis and cirrhosis in Surat.
Liver disease is assessed by our medical gastroenterologists, and liver surgery, including surgery for liver tumours, is done by our surgical gastroenterology team at the main hospital.
Liver problems often show up quietly - a raised liver test, fat seen on an ultrasound, or a positive hepatitis result - or more suddenly, with yellow eyes and dark urine. Whatever brought you here, the first step is a consultation to understand what is happening and how urgent it is.
Many liver conditions are managed with medicines, lifestyle change and regular follow-up. When a procedure is needed, such as ERCP for a blocked bile duct or banding of swollen veins, it is done in our endoscopy suite. When surgery is needed, the surgical gastroenterology team plans it with you.

Not sure which condition it is?
Start with a consultation - the doctor will explain what is most likely going on and which tests, if any, you need.
This information is general and is not a diagnosis. Please see a doctor about your own symptoms.
Your First Visit for a Liver Problem
- Before your visit.
Bring all previous blood test and scan reports, a list of your medicines and any herbal remedies, and note how much alcohol you drink.
- At the consultation.
The gastroenterologist asks about your symptoms and history, examines you and explains what is most likely going on.
- If tests are needed.
You are told which test, why, and how to prepare. Endoscopic tests and procedures are done at our main hospital in Adajan.
- Your plan.
The results are explained in plain words, with a treatment plan and follow-up at Adajan or the OPD nearest you.
When Is a Liver Problem Urgent?
Severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood, black or tarry stools, heavy rectal bleeding, fainting, or a cold, pale or painful limb may need urgent assessment. Do not wait for an online appointment — call the hospital or go to the nearest emergency department.
